World Ferment Day!

We’re thrilled to be hosting this exciting fermentation event!
We will be in the very capable hands of Rose Whitehouse of Red Earth Ferments. Rose initially started her fermenting journey to make positive choices for her own wellbeing after a diagnosis of Coeliac Disease. She has also found that fermenting food helped to draw attention to the food chain, and believes fermenting connects us and draws attention to the life that is in/on food. This also helps us consider where food comes from.
Rose has been fermenting for over a decade and is the fermenter for Shillingford Organics just out of Exeter.
We are also delighted to have Nicola Hart (the Madre), founder of Agua De Madre joining us to talk everything water kefir. Nicola wanted to create the ‘ultimate ancient modern drink’ steeped in history and full of powerful health benefits. Agua De Madre water kefir is fast becoming the go to fizzy drink, that’s why we have it as one of our soft drink options here at Hippo, to replace the Cokes and ‘actual’ ‘Monsters’ of this world! Nicola features in Tim Spector’s new book ‘Ferment’.
What to expect:
- Short intro
- Nicola will demonstrate how you can make water kefir at home, talk everything WK, and answer any questions. She’ll also have some of her ‘Remedio’ to sample.
- Rose will share her extensive knowledge and demonstrate how to make a seasonal kraut. She’ll be bringing a few tasty ‘colourful’ ferments to try.
- Open for Q&As all round either before lunch of soup and sourdough, or after depending on how we go…
